Could an Accountant Save You Money?

If you are running a business and you do not know every tax law, state and federal regulation, and federally mandated rules concerning small businesses, then yes an accountant can save you money.

It does not matter if your business is building chairs, or is fixing computers, there are laws that apply to you that must be followed, or you get in hot water with the state authorities and the federal authorities. Each business must pay employee tax withholdings in on a certain day of each quarter. They must also pay sales taxes, both local and state every month. You never want to be late with the payments for these taxes because the fines and penalties are extreme.

As a business owner with employees you must keep an accurate account of the amount of time your employee works every day, and of the amount of money they earn for that days work. You must show the amount of money at the end of the week that they have earned, minus the local, state, or federal withholdings you are obligated to withhold. Of these withholdings some of them you are required to match. So if you held ten dollars out of your employees pay for social security taxes then you are obligated to match that ten dollars.

There are really a lot of tax laws and rules you must know to operate a business. You must also know about unemployment insurance and how and when to pay that money in each month. This is just some of the paperwork involved in keeping the records relating to the employees. You also have to keep accurate records on the amount of money you spend each month, and the amount of money you receive each month, and be able to show your margin of profit or loss. Hiring an accountant can save you a lot of money in taxes, fines, and penalties.
